| Recent severe storms have impacted communities across Maryland, bringing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, fallen trees, and widespread power outages. As cleanup and restoration efforts continue, the Secretary Volunteer Fire Company encourages all residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their families safe. Power outages can create additional hazards long after the storms have passed. If your home is without electricity, remember these important safety reminders: Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume they are energized and dangerous. Report them to your electric utility or call 911 if they present an immediate threat. Utility crews, emergency responders, and public safety personnel continue working around the clock to restore power and respond to storm-related incidents. Please be patient, avoid unnecessary travel in damaged areas, and allow crews the space they need to work safely. One of the best ways to stay informed before, during, and after severe weather is to sign up for Maryland Emergency Alerts through the state's emergency preparedness program.
