Community service doesn't always come with flashing lights and emergency calls. Sometimes, it's about lending a helping hand when neighbors need it most.

During the recent Tri-City Little League All-Star Tournament, organizers faced an unexpected challenge when water usage restrictions in Hurlock made it difficult to properly prepare the playing fields. Without adequate moisture, the fields became dry and dusty, creating less-than-ideal playing conditions for the young athletes.

Wanting to ensure the tournament could continue safely, the Secretary Volunteer Fire Company stepped in to help.

Over the course of several days, members transported multiple loads of water to the ballfields, wetting down the infields and helping control dust so players could compete in safer conditions. While it wasn't an emergency response, it was another example of what being a community fire company is all about—serving wherever and whenever we're needed.

Seeing the smiles on the faces of the players and knowing the tournament could continue successfully made every trip worthwhile.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Tri-City Little League for their kind words and public recognition. It was our privilege to assist in making the tournament a success for the athletes, families, volunteers, and everyone who came out to enjoy the event.

At Secretary Volunteer Fire Company, our mission extends beyond emergency response. Whether it's answering 911 calls, educating the public, supporting local organizations, or helping make community events possible, we are proud to serve the residents of Secretary and our surrounding communities.

We wish all of the All-Star players the very best and thank Tri-City Little League for allowing us to be a small part of a memorable tournament.

Serving our community means more than responding to emergencies—it means showing up whenever our neighbors need us. 🚒⚾💙
