| At 6:38 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, members of the Secretary Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched for a Brush Box 16-3 response to the 3700 block of Fairfax Circle for a reported brush fire threatening a nearby shed.
Brush 16-1 arrived on the scene to find one tree burning with the fire extending toward a shed. Crews quickly deployed a hose line and brought the fire under control before it could spread to the shed or nearby structures/vegetation.
Following the extinguishment of the fire, firefighters determined the blaze originated from a residential burn. Changing wind conditions caused embers and flames to spread from the burn area into nearby trees, igniting the vegetation.
Thanks to the rapid response of Secretary Volunteer Fire Company members, the fire was contained quickly, preventing further damage and protecting nearby property.
As a reminder, residents conducting outdoor burning should always monitor weather conditions, particularly wind speed and direction. Even a slight shift in the wind can cause fires to spread rapidly beyond the intended burn area. Never leave a fire unattended, keep extinguishment tools readily available, and ensure all burning complies with local regulations.
